The Story of the Sand and why it's called Cleopatra Beach
According to the legend, Cleopatra, the queen of Egypt, accepts the proposal of Mark Antonius, the famous Roman general, however she rejects leaving Egypt and go somewhere else for their honeymoon. To prove his everlasting and unique love to his beloved wife Cleopatra, Antonius brings 60 big ships loaded with the special sand from the Red Sea to this beach. And happy ending, they spend a proverbial honeymoon in this perfect place and make their love become immortal!
The Unique Sand That was brough from Egypt
This beach -which is located within the borders of Sedir Island- is strongly protected by the government because of the uniqueness of its sand in order to prevent any of them being removed from the beach to somewhere else. The uniqueness comes from each grain’s shape of perfect sphere and being smaller than 1 mm. With its famous olive trees growing all around the island, you will feel the Mediterranean culture in every breath you take. The gem of Sedir Island is about a 30-minute drive from Marmaris. The road runs through the countryside to Gallipoli Bay, and we depart on a traditional Turkish wooden boat.
